An agricultural mower gearbox is a specialized mechanical component that transfers and regulates power from a tractor power take-off (PTO) or self-propelled mower engine to the cutting mechanism (blades, flails, etc.). Key Features and Functions:
Speed reduction and torque increase: This is its core purpose. Tractor PTOs typically run at a standard high speed (such as 540 or 1000 RPM). However, mower blades require a specific (usually much lower) speed to cut effectively and safely, but require considerable torque to navigate dense grass, brush, or uneven terrain without stalling. The gearbox accomplishes this critical conversion.
Right-angle power transmission (common): Many agricultural mowers, especially rotary mowers (such as rotary cutters or finishing mowers), have a horizontal cutting shaft driven by a vertically oriented input shaft (from the PTO). Gearboxes often use bevel gears to effectively change the direction of power flow by 90 degrees.

Flail mowers: These mowers use multiple small flails (blades) mounted on a horizontal rotor. The transmission drives this rotor, providing the power to efficiently chop and mulch the material.
Hitched and towed mowers: Whether the mower is directly attached to the tractor's three-point hitch or towed behind the tractor, the transmission is the core component that converts power to the cutting mechanism.
Specialty mowers: Found in a variety of specialized agricultural mowers, such as those used for orchard maintenance, roadside cleanup or specialized crop residue management.
Commercial Lawn and Turf Care: Transmissions are also found in large commercial push or ride-on lawn mowers and serve the same purpose, transmitting and regulating the power to the cutting decks.

10. Low noise: Because the main parts of the speed reducer are processed, and tested critically, therefore the noise of the speed reducer is low.
