Product Description
Advantages of American Standard Double Pitch Sprockets
Long center distance sprockets are economical: Because the link length is doubled, fewer links (and therefore fewer parts such as pins and bushings) are required for a given distance. This means that double pitch chains are generally more economical than single pitch chains for applications with long sprocket center distances. As a result, the sprocket can have fewer teeth for a given overall diameter, saving costs.
Lighter weight: Fewer chain parts means less overall chain weight for a given length. This reduces the inertia of the system and potentially reduces power consumption.
Reduces wear on sprocket teeth (31 teeth and up): For sprockets with 31 teeth or more, double pitch chains can actually mesh with every other tooth on a standard single pitch sprocket. However, specially designed double pitch sprockets, especially those with 30 teeth or less, have an improved tooth profile to ensure proper meshing with the other chain rollers, which distributes wear more evenly over the life of the sprocket.
Smoother operation (especially with larger rollers): Some double pitch chains feature oversized rollers. These larger rollers provide better contact with the sprocket teeth, which results in smoother operation and reduced shock loads on the sprocket teeth during meshing.
Ideal for low-speed, high-load applications: Double pitch chains and their sprockets are ideal for applications where reliable transmission of power and material handling at low speeds but high loads is a priority.
Attachment versatility: Many double pitch chains are designed with hollow pins or specialized attachment links that integrate perfectly with the corresponding sprockets, allowing for easy attachment of crossbars, scrapers or other conveying components.

Applications of American Standard Double Pitch Sprockets
Conveyor Systems: This is their most common and important application.
Material Handling: Used in general industrial conveyors for moving goods, boxes or products. Longer pitches allow for more stable and consistent product placement, especially for larger items.
Packaging Machinery: Used in production lines where product needs to be precisely placed and moved through various stages such as filling, sealing or labeling.
Food Processing (Dry/Non-Corrosive): Used in conveyor systems for product movement. Generally steel double pitch sprockets are used for dry food handling, although stainless steel versions are available for wet/corrosive environments.
Wood Processing: Used for conveying logs, wood chips or processed wood.
Airport Equipment: Used in baggage handling systems.
Agricultural Machinery:
Harvesting Equipment: Used in certain internal conveying mechanisms of combines, balers or root crop harvesters that need to convey material over a certain distance at moderate speeds.
Fertilizer Spreaders: Used to drive an auger or chain that delivers granular fertilizer.
Hay Elevators: Used to lift hay or forage.
Manure Spreaders: Chain drive systems used to convey and distribute manure.
General Industrial Drives (Low Speed, Long Center):
Any application that requires power to be transmitted over relatively long distances, where speeds are not too high, and where a more economical solution than a standard single pitch chain is sought.
