Product Description
Rotary Piston Vacuum Pump
Piston pumps are used for most large scale vacuum applications. These pumps have a sliding sleeve through which the gas enters, then drawn into a cylindrical chamber and exhausted by a rocking piston plunger. These pumps are very hardy and have pumping speeds that range from 15 cfm to 2,000 cfm and the pumps can reach a pressure of 1 x 10-4 Torr. Rotary piston pumps can be prepared for corrosive and oxygen service.
Here are the key applications of rotary vane vacuum pumps:
Laboratories and Research Institutions:
Roughing Pumps: They are frequently used as "roughing pumps" to pre-evacuate vacuum chambers or systems before high or ultra-high vacuum pumps take over. This is because they efficiently bring systems down from atmospheric pressure to the rough vacuum range (typically down to 10 ³ mbar or lower for two-stage pumps).
Analytical Instruments: Powering various analytical instruments like mass spectrometers, electron microscopes, gas chromatographs, and spectroscopy systems that require a stable and consistent vacuum environment for precise measurements.
Degassing: Used for degassing liquids, epoxies, and resins to remove trapped air bubbles, ensuring product integrity in material science and chemistry.
Filtration: Employed in vacuum filtration processes to speed up liquid separation.
Freeze-Drying (Lyophilization): Crucial for preserving delicate substances like pharmaceuticals, food, and biological samples by removing water through sublimation under vacuum.
Distillation and Evaporation: Used in vacuum distillation and evaporation processes to lower boiling points and facilitate separation or concentration of heat-sensitive materials.
Manufacturing and Industrial Production:
Vacuum Packaging: One of the most widespread applications. They remove air from packaging to extend the shelf life of food, medical devices, and other perishable or sensitive goods by preventing oxidation and microbial growth.
Pick-and-Place Systems: Providing vacuum for suction cups used in automated material handling, lifting, and precise positioning of components (e.g., in electronics assembly, glass handling, printing).
Woodworking: Used for vacuum hold-down tables on CNC routers and other machinery to securely clamp workpieces without mechanical clamps.
Plastics Processing: In vacuum forming, extrusion (for degassing molten plastic), and blow molding.
Metallurgy and Heat Treatment: Creating vacuum conditions in furnaces for heat treatment processes like annealing, brazing, and vacuum sintering to prevent oxidation and achieve desired material properties.
Coating Technologies: Used in vacuum deposition (e.g., PVD, CVD) for applying thin films and coatings to various surfaces (e.g., optics, electronics, tools) in a controlled environment.
Drying Processes: For vacuum drying of various materials (powders, granules, chemicals) to remove moisture at lower temperatures, which is beneficial for heat-sensitive products.
Automotive Industry:
Brake Boosting Systems: Providing vacuum assistance for power brakes in vehicles, especially diesel-powered cars and trucks where the engine doesn't produce sufficient intake manifold vacuum.
Air Conditioning (HVAC) System Evacuation: Used to evacuate air and moisture from automotive and commercial HVAC systems before charging them with refrigerant.
Engine Testing and Emission Control: Assisting in automotive emission testing and engine development processes.
Vacuum Metalizing: Applying metallic coatings to plastic parts for aesthetic or functional purposes.
Medical and Dental Applications:
Sterilization: Used in autoclaves to create a vacuum before steam injection, ensuring thorough penetration and drying.
Surgical Suction: Providing vacuum for medical suction apparatus (though often with specialized liquid ring or diaphragm pumps for direct fluid handling).
Dental Equipment: Powering dental suction systems and other instruments.
Printing Industry:
Paper Handling: Used in printing presses for paper separation, feeding, and transport, often by generating both vacuum (for lifting) and pressure (for blowing).
Binding and Finishing: In various post-press applications.
Chemical Processing and Petrochemicals:
Distillation and Filtration: As mentioned above, for efficient separation and purification.
Solvent Recovery: Recovering solvents by evaporation under vacuum.
Degassing Crude Oil/Fluids: Removing dissolved gases from various fluids.
